Introduction to Sewing
This in-person course is designed to introduce young students to the useful and profitable skill of sewing- a skillset that can develop into a hobby or career. Students will acquire knowledge of fabrics, equipment, design, and construction techniques. Since this course is based on hands-on application, students will leave accomplished with clothing products they are proud to have made.

Meet the Instructor:
Melanie Lyke- I am a Culinary Arts teacher at Homewood-Flossmoor High School with over 13 years of experience working in the field of education. I hold a Professional Education License in the state of Illinois as well as TEFL Certification and have taught ages ranging from 3-18 both in the U.S. and abroad in Shenzhen, China. I earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Fashion Merchandising from Howard University and currently lead the clothing & lifestyle brand, Dorcas Gisele.
